Call of Duty: Mobile – Basic Gameplay Tips

Call of Duty: Mobile (COD Mobile) is a free-to-play first-person shooter video game that was published by Activision in 2019. It brought the success series to the mobile platform and saw one of the largest ever iOS and Android game launches. In this article, we are going to talk about how to start as a beginner.

Call of Duty (CoD for short) is a first-person shooter video game series. Its episodes take place in World War II, the Cold War, modern times, and the future. The series is owned and published by Activision. Released by Aspyr Media for Mac OS X only. Most of the parts were developed by Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games.

The first-person shooter genre is continuously developed since the ‘80s. Call of Duty’s predecessors were 20 pixel-guy heroes in Doom and Wolfenstein. One thing did not change significantly: it was always the easiest to control an FPS with a keyboard. Applying that to the mobiles, where the screens are much slower was not easy, but Call of Duty managed to introduce an interface that made most of the screen visible, while still offering playable sized buttons to control the heroes.

Setting control schemes

There are many settings related to controls, and although the ‘simple’ mode tries to lure us in with its ‘no action needed’ approach, the best players agree that the Advanced mode is the right one. Click on it, then customize: shotguns are best to shoot from the hip (no zooming will be applied), however, all other guns should be set as ADS. Setting up your controls this way is for careful players, who do not want to rush in the first minute to kill all their enemies, but getting to them one by one slowly but steadily. You do not want to miss the opportunity to set 10+ sensitivities that will help you to aim, walk, run, and defeat your enemies. As you play with your fingers tapping on your mobile screen, it will be crucial to set them in a fitting manner.

As you will see in our video, the tutorial will be providing in-depth support on how to set things up. After you’ve learned how to aim and shoot with different weapons, you can move forward to play a live game – as did we in the video.

We equipped our soldier with an M4 and teamed up with 4 other players to hunt down the enemy. Although the enemy team was beginner level, we had a great time fighting them and lead the game by collecting 11 kills in total. As a reward, we leveled up and our character was able to unlock the frag grenade that can apply ‘area of effect’ type of damage, aka damage or kill multiple targets at the same time.
